Child Protective Services
If you find yourself in a situation that requires you to defend against accusations of child neglect or abuse, turn to G.J. Chavez & Associates, P.C. We provide strategic representation for parents who are in danger of having their children taken away from them. If the CPS has already taken your child from your home, they will schedule a hearing within 14 days. You should have a legal representative with you at this hearing to ensure that your side of the story is heard. Don’t delay in consulting with our legal team so that we can begin formulating a strategic case on your behalf.
Child Support
In Texas, both the mother and the father are responsible for the costs of raising their child. The noncustodial parent will typically make payments to the custodial parent. The payment amount is based on a percentage of the noncustodial parent’s income. The percentage varies based on the number of children involved. If there is one child, the noncustodial parent will need to pay 20% of their net resources. If, on the other hand, there are five children, 40% of the paying parent’s income will go towards child support.
While the parents can agree to an amount above the guidelines, they cannot agree to a payment that is less. The attorneys at our firm can help ensure that you achieve a fair child support settlement, whether you are seeking support or being required to pay.
Family Law Modifications
If you have undergone a substantial change in circumstances since your divorce decree was finalized, you may be eligible to obtain a modification. Examples of qualifying changes in circumstances include job loss or promotion, relocation, or a change in the child’s needs.
Our family law attorneys help our clients seek modifications for:
- Child custody
- Child support
- Alimony
We also represent those wishing to prevent a modification that has been requested by their ex-partner. Contact us today to ensure your rights remain protected.
Protective Orders
G.J. Chavez & Associates, P.C. also assists victims of domestic abuse or assault. Our Plano family law attorneys can help you obtain a protective order that prevents your abuser from hurting you and requires that they stay away from locations where you and your children reside, work, or go to school.
